Saturday September 17th 2011 the Concord Department of Fire and Life Safety conducted Safe Kids Day at the K - Mart Parking lot on Concord Parkway at Poplar Tent Road. Events included Safety House, Bicycle Rodeo, the Highway Patrol's No Texting while Driving, The Sundrop Monster Truck, Facepainting, and more...

The CHS Fire Academy assisted by operating the Fire Safety House. Amanda Henry and Norman Franklin were the main contacts for this event.

Lieutenant Reggie Hocutt of the Raleigh Fire Department delivers uniform shirts and dress uniform caps and patches from Raleigh Fire Department.

Lieutenant Hocutt is trying to get a High School Fire Academy started in Harnett County at Harnett Central High School and partner with the Harnett County Fireman's Association.

Concord High School Fire Academy Dedicates World Trade Center Artifact

School Board and City Council Members attended
Chief Holloway, Mrs. Black, Chief Allen, and Chief Barlow with the Artifact
Students from many classes came by to observe and pay respect
Students observe and pay respect to the World Trade Center

The Honor Guard Cycled at approximately 15 minute intervals
Students were permitted to touch the artifact
and to read the names of all those who lost their lives that day
on the Flag of Honor

On Monday September 12, 2011 the Concord High School Fire Academy unveiled and dedicated a piece of the World Trade Center in a Ceremony at the school and it was broadcast on Channel 9 News and reported in the Local Newspaper The Independent Tribune.
The event was attended by Chief Holloway and Chief Allen of Concord Fire and Life Safety, Lisa Conger, Director of the CTE program for the Cabarrus County Schools, and members of the School Board and City Council.

The Concord High School Fire Academy Honor Guard stood guard over the Artifact for the remainder of the day so that any Teacher could bring their classes down to visit the artifact and have a more respectful and personal time with it.

The City of Concord and the Department of Fire and Life Safety conducted a wonderful Patriots Day Remembrance Ceremony on Sunday afternoon September 11, 2011 and unveiled a piece of the World Trade Center for all to see. Other attending agencies included: Harrisburg Fire Department, Kannapolis Fire and Police, Concord Police Department, Cabarrus County Sherrif's Department, Police Explorers, Concord High School Fire Academy Recruits.

Chief Rick Lasky Retires from the Lewisville, Texas Fire Department

Chief Rick Lasky of the Lewisville, Texas Fire Department is well known across the nation as a motivational speaker with his "Pride and Ownership" series. He officially retired at the end of August and will be missed by his Firefighting family. From what I understand, he will continue with his Pride and Ownership series with Chief John Salka of FDNY.

Concord High School Fire Academy Graduates its First OSFM Certified Firefighter I,II Recruit

Nathan Bryant
Nathan Bryant is the first recruit to become Firefighter I,II certified through the Concord High School Fire Academy program. Nathan's journey to certification as a NC Firefighter I,II was accomplished very quickly with 14 of the OSFM's 21 certification classes taken through our program. The other 7 classes were completed through Community College classes offered through local Fire Departments and Weekend Fire Schools. The most challenging of the classes were the Haz Mat Awareness and Operations class - 44 hours (He scored in the high 90's on the written exam) and Fire Control - 40 hours which finished up with Live Fire Training the weekend after graduation.
His certification was officially complete with the updated OSFM Transcript on Wednesday August 17th, 2011. The Firefighter I,II Certificate arrived on Friday 8-19-11 with the IFSAC Seal recognized in 43 States and a number of other Countries.

Nathan has volunteered with both
Northeast Volunteer Fire Department
and Mount Pleasant Fire - Rescue throughout his Senior year.

Nathan will begin his Professional Firefighting career on September 2, 2011 as a part time Firefighter with Odell Fire Department in Cabarrus county.
He is also enrolled in the Associates Degree program in Fire Protection Technology at Rowan Cabarrus Community College.
