Welcome and an Indroduction to CHSFA Chief David M. Barlow

As the Chief of the Concord High School Fire Academy I would like to take a moment and Welcome each of you to this incredible opportunity.

I am looking forward to a wonderful second semester with each of you in both Battalions. As recruits I encourage you to learn as much as you possibly can about the Fire Service and take full advantage of the opportunities that are offered to assist you in beginning to lay a foundation for a career in the "Greatest Profession on Earth".

This program is one of only 3 such programs in the state of NC.

The NC Dept. of Public Instruction and the Office of the State Fire Marshal have decided to offer this program in the hope that it will permit students the opportunity to learn more about the Fire Service as well as providing the opportunity to receive Certification as Firefighter I,II through the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The requirements for the Certification include taking the class for three semesters and passing the Written tests as well as completing all of the Practical Skills. After graduation, the CHSFA in partnership with Concord Fire Department will offer a "Graduate Boot Camp" that will review in a condensed time frame many of the Practical Skills and prepare you to join either a Volunteer Fire Department, The Concord Department of Fire and Life Safety Reserve Program or go on to a full career in the Fire Service.

Other programs in NC include:

Dixon High School
Public Safety Academy
Onslow County, NC
The program at Concord High School will resemble an ROTC program complete with an Honor Guard that will be able to Present the Colors at school, civic, and other functions. We plan to Present the Colors this year at Graduation and be in the Concord Christmas Parade in November. We are working toward getting uniforms and patches and would like each recruit to wear the uniform one day per week. I have been working on some very exciting opportunities for the classes for the second semester. This includes possible Field Trips, and visits from Concord Fire and Life Safety personnel, Arson Dog, Life Flight Helicopter and more.... I look forward to meeting all of you next week and sharing the vision with you.
